BAGLAMA KAMP AND MUSIC FESTIVAL
JOIN US FOR OUR 5 DAYS CAMP
10 - 14 SEPTEMBER 2018
Ranked 1st place at the Inter-university Turkish Folk Music Competitions when he was 13. Won the Bursa Metropolitan Conservatory's lecturer audition under the supervision of Yücel Paşmakçı and Istanbul Technical University's academic staff, ranking 1st place and became a lecturer. His aim was to give a life lesson to the academia and he succeeded but after a 3 months period in academia, he realized that academic environment had nothing to give him, he resigned.
He started professional stage and album practices with Ibrahim Tatlıses at the age of 16. He performed concerts with his "baglama" at foreign countries and took part in various musicians' albums. His first music direction experience was for İbrahim Tatlıses' album; "Fırat" at the age of 17 with co-operation of Sendur Güzelel. Together, they worked on İzzet Yıldızhan's album; "Birisi", Ebru Yaşar's; "Seni Anan Benim İçin Doğurmuş", and Hakan Taşıyan's "Canım".
He joined the army at the age of 20. His first days in military was in Isparta and returned to İstanbul after completing his military service. Wanting to explore broader horizons, he went to Cairo with Aytaç Doğan with the help of "Mısırlı Ahmet", in 1998. He already was a well-established name in Cairo's music society. He worked with master music composers in Middle East such as Ömer Hayrat, Emir Abdul Megect, Tarık Akif Yahya. He took part in the concerts of Egyptian Symphony Orchestra which had the maestro "Ömer Hayrat." He introduced the instrument; "baglama" to Middle East and Cairo. So he, Mısırlı Ahmet and Mısırlı Ahmet's brother Levent went to Desert Sinai. It was the perfect atmosphere that they were looking for. In desert, there was not any commercial concern, time concept, technology and unnecessary communication. They were in the depths of nature with a deep understanding of feeling serene. The Red Sea was lying in front of them and the desert behind and the only thing they concerned about was swimming in the beautiful sea and playing their instruments. Some days, they played for 16 hours. Their only goal was to be far away from crowds and find the truth within their music and souls. Who was İSMAİL TUNÇBİLEK? He got the answer at the Sinai Desert, he realized that the music he had performed until then was not real and it wasn't from his soul. So he started to make himself and his music real. They stayed in Sinai desert for 8 months. They were invited to Israel by a famous Israeli music producer. They stayed in Israel for 3 months. At those days, they met with the country's most famous musicians and world-wide known percussion master; Zuhar Fresko. They performed together in concerts and various shows. ( Mısırlı Ahmet's, Levent, İsmail and Fresko's group performs was recorded secretly in a jazz school in Israel.) They decided to go to Spain to meet and play with the great masters, in 2000.
They had several percussionist friends in Spain already and together they started to make and perform their own music. They worked with masters such as Paco De Lucia, Carlos Benevent, George Pardo. Carlos Benement, Aleş Xavi, Ercan Irmak, Göksun Çavdar, Feyruz Hoca and tonmeister Tarık Ceran all collaborated in their demo album that introduced their music to Spain.
Tunçbilek's world-wide works created a huge influence in Turkish music society. He was no longer that old baglama musician, assistant of director who served to labor exploiters in the past.
TUNÇBİLEK lives is in İstanbul since 2001. He travels, plays and share his music with people all over the world from time to time. He provides music direction for Arabian artists' albums recordings in Turkey nowadays with Turkish musicians. He also helps to introduce our precious musicians to Middle East.
